  • Malaise
  • Shortness of breath
  • Pain just below the ribs on the right side
  • A decrease in urine output
  • A decrease in platelets in the blood

What are the Causes of Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy?

The exact cause of the disorders involves many factors. Several experts believe that the disorder begins in the placenta (the main organ that nourishes the fetus throughout pregnancy).

 

In women with the disorder, blood vessels don’t seem to function or develop properly. If a female is suffering from the disorder then she had narrower than normal blood vessels and react differently to hormonal signaling, which limits the amount of blood that can flow through vessels.

 

Causes of this abnormal development may include:

  • Insufficient blood flow to the uterus
  • A problem with the immune system
  • Damage to the blood vessels
  • Certain genes
