A premature newborn of about 1kg weigh undergone a procedure to remove a blockage in the large artery known as \u2018coarctation of aorta\u2019. The medical condition<\/a> of the newborn boy was so serious that even doctor n Mumbai denied in view of the fact given the baby\u2019s body weight. Now, the boy has been discharged from the hospital and is doing fine. His weight is 1.7kg now. Also, doctors did not reveal the name, on the request of the child\u2019s parents.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n While briefing the case to the media, Neonatologist Sanjay Aher, of the Neo care Hospital, and pediatric cardiologist Lalit Lawankar, of Gunwant Child Heart Care Centre said that the newborn was born premature (at just 30 weeks) on June 13 and weighed just 1kg 40 gm. The parents<\/a> had admitted the newborn boy to the Neo care hospital.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n While operating, Aher was having trouble finding the baby\u2019s pulse. And then they suspected that the baby may be suffering from a heart<\/a> ailment. Lalit Lawankar was then requested to check the baby. That was when the blockage in the baby\u2019s large artery (coarctation of the aorta) was noticed.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n As the condition was extremely serious even specialty doctors from Mumbai refused to perform a surgery on the boy given his weight. Then left with no other choice, the doctors took the boy\u2019s parents into confidence and decided to perform the surgery in Nashik.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Seeing the baby\u2019s low weight, open-heart surgery<\/a> was not an option. The operation procedure had to be done quickly within 30 minutes. Where the baby was just 18 days old on the day of the surgery. And the surgery was done at cath lab of the Pioneer hospital.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Lalit quoted that during the process of inflating the balloon in the heart, the blood supply to the foot is disturbed. This carries a great risk of developing gangrene in the leg. We have checked with all the leading pediatric surgeons across the country and have even surfed the internet. But nobody has ever performed a heart surgery of this kind on a baby weighing only 1kg 40 gm. We found on the internet, that one such surgery performed in Turkey. The weight of that baby was 1 kg and 50 gm.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to the Gynecologist Manisha Jagtap of Uttam Nagar, in whose hospital the baby was born, said he was discharged on July 16.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Where Aher and Lawnakar will be keeping track of the baby\u2019s health in the future.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
