Cancer Survivors Day 2023 – Saluting the resilience of the survivors and their loved ones.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020, or almost one in six. While some cancers, such as breast or uterine, can be diagnosed early and treated on time, others, such as pancreatic cancers, are no less than silent killers. But with advancements in medical technology, cancer, once a formidable foe of humankind, can finally be defeated. The fight is long but winnable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cancer Survivor’s Day is an annual event celebrated on the first Sunday of June to honor cancer survivors. A cancer survivor must undergo many treatments for a long time to get their cancer under control.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This year, we will celebrate Cancer Survivors Day on the 4th of June. It will be a community awareness program to make the public aware of cancer and the tedious path the survivor must follow to overcome the disease. They also acknowledge the contributions made by their family, friends, healthcare providers, and those involved in cancer-related research.<\/span><\/p>\n

Talking of cancer,\u00a0<\/span>About 18% of cancer survivors have survived 20 or more years after diagnosis<\/span><\/strong>. 64% of survivors are age 65 or older. Cancer survivors are projected to increase by 24.4%, to 22.5 million, by 2032.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cancer Survivor’s Day was first announced by Merril Hastings at the second national conference meeting of the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on the 20th of November, 1987. The first one was held on the 5th of June 1988.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Cancer Survivors’ Day is a secular holiday celebrated in the USA. National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation, the NGO which organizes the events on this Day, has been attempting to grow its popularity in other countries with limited success. The events include parades, carnivals, art exhibits, contests, and testimonies to honor local cancer survivors.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Day aims to show that life after cancer treatment can be fruitful and fun.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scientists have been working Day and night to develop more effective cancer treatments. Advancements in treatments will relieve the cancer survivor and aid the person in returning to their everyday life.<\/span><\/p>\n
