As the global spread of mpox (previously known as monkeypox) continues to increase, driven by a fast-emerging strain, the World Health Organization<\/a> (WHO) has taken a crucial step by approving the first-ever diagnostic test for mpox. This move offers renewed hope for countries struggling with mpox outbreaks, particularly in regions where the virus had not been previously observed.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the WHO granted emergency use authorization for a diagnostic test developed by Abbott Laboratories. This test is expected to significantly improve testing capabilities in areas affected by mpox. In an official statement, the UN health agency said, “The emergency approval of the Alinity m MPXV assay, produced by Abbott Molecular Inc., will play a key role in expanding diagnostic capacity in countries dealing with mpox outbreaks, where the demand for rapid and accurate testing has surged.<\/p>\n
