This scheme was first introduced by the UPA government in 2010 was later improvised and rebranded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to PMMVY to provide benefits to pregnant and lactating women of 19 years of age or above for first live birth. It provides a partial wage compensation to women for wage-loss during childbirth and childcare and to provide conditions for a safe delivery and good nutrition and feeding practices. How does Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana works?
The First Live Birth payment will be paid in three installments, and forms for this will be available at Anganwadi centers and/CDPO’s office. The first installment of Rs.1000 will be paid at the time the pregnancy is registered at the nearest Anganwadi center. The second installment of Rs. 2000 will be paid after attendance at at-least one ante-natal check-up (ANC), IFA tablets and TT injection and counseling session at Anganwadi center.
The third installment of Rs. 2000 will be paid after registration of birth, and immunization of child at six and ten weeks (first cycle). Photocopies of the following documents are to be submitted: Aadhaar cards of both husband and wife (beneficiary); beneficiary’s bank account details in her name; Mother and Child Protection Card (MCP) after registration at government health center; birth certificate of the child.
