Difference Between Gallstone and Kidney Stone

 

 

First of all, let’s understand the function of the two organs gallbladder and kidney. The function of the kidney is to filter blood, which creates urine. The function of the gallbladder is to store bile (chemical produced by the liver), which helps in the digestion and absorption of fats.

Both of the organs can produce a stone. A kidney stone is a solid mass which is made up of small crystals from the minerals like oxalate, calcium and uric acid. While gallstones are hard, pebble-like pigment or cholesterol deposits that form inside the gallbladder. These both stone can be as small as a grain of sand or as large as a golf ball. There can vary in the number, it can be one or more stones in the kidney or gallbladder at the same time.

 

People who had kidney stone seem to have a high risk of gallstones as well and vice versa.

Kidney stones: Sometimes symptoms of kidney stones will go unnoticed as well. The pain experience as sharp cramping in the back and side close to the kidney. Vomiting or Nausea and blood in the urine are also common symptoms of kidney stone. If these stones are large, they can stretch and irritate the ureter, blocking urine and causing excruciating pain.

Kidney Stones: Drinking lots of water and liquids throughout the day help to prevent kidney stone. People prone to forming calcium oxalate stones can be asked to limit or avoid certain foods containing those chemicals.

Kidney stone can passes out through urine but gallstone can be passed out by there own the only way to treat it is the gallbladder removal.
