Both in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intrauterine insemination (IUI) are fertility treatments used to helps the couple who want to get pregnant.

IVF is the process that involves the stimulation of eggs, retrieval, fertilization, and then the transfer of eggs; whereas, an IUI is an insertion of sperm into a uterus, which decreases the travel time of sperm’s to the egg. People usually get confused between an IUI and an IVF treatment.

Who Can Benefit From IUI?

IUI, also known as “artificial insemination,” is a process that places sperm directly into the uterus. IUI can help couples when:

  • When a lady has ovulation problems and has not been able to conceive even after taking the ovulation-inducing fertility medication.

  • Medication is given to the lady to increase the number of eggs a woman normally ovulates.

  • Minor abnormalities occur in the sperm analysis like motility, concentration, and morphology or shapes of the sperm.

  • Difficulty in ejaculating.

  • The male partner has frozen sperm.

  • Donor’s sperm is being used to get pregnant.
