When Arif got his tests done, he learned that the reason behind this stark pain was slipped disc, leading to nerve root compression.

Disc bulging also called a herniated disc or slipped or ruptured disc, is a condition where a fragment of the disc nucleus is pushed out of the annulus into the spinal canal through a tear or rupture in the annulus. Discs that become herniated usually are in an early stage of degeneration.

A herniated disk, which can occur in any part of the spine, most often occurs in the lower back. Depending on where the herniated disk is, it can result in pain, numbness, or weakness in an arm or leg.

It’s common for a herniated disk in the lower back to cause “sciatic nerve” pain. This sharp pain usually shoots down one side of your buttocks into your leg and sometimes the foot.
