Name: Aditi
Age: 18 year
Around 10 months ago, I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. I was just a school going teenager, living a happy enthusiastic life, and having fun with all my friends and family. Suddenly, one day on December 17, I started feeling drowsy, weak, dull and was feeling uncomfortable to do my ‘normal’ activities. And the next day, the vomiting started and my vision became blurred. I thought it was because I hadn’t eaten and was very tired. I thought it was a part of being a teen. But I was very wrong.

I was ignoring those symptoms, hoping that they would disappear soon, but they didn’t. Meanwhile, I traveled to Delhi, to spend my vacation with my cousins, Uncle (mama), aunty (mami) and Grandma (nani), where my symptoms got worse then ever and my mother got suspicious about my health. One more day passed like this and my mom decided to take me to a nearby doctor. The doctor diagnosed it as a stomach virus and he gave me some injections and medicine for the same. My mom observed me and realized that I was getting pale and my condition was not good. Then, mom talked about my condition with my uncle’s friend who is a doctor, he advised to not ignore these symptoms as it could be a kidney problem. So, my mom searched for a nephrologist (doctor of kidneys) on Google in order to book an appointment to check what was wrong with me. Unfortunately, he found out that my kidneys weren’t working properly and did the best he could to stabilize me.
After 15 days, I went to the hospital where they shifted me to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) because I was still swollen and had all symptoms of uremia like dizziness, blurry vision, nausea and pale. I stayed there for around a month. Eventually, life got better. I got hemodialysis with my HD catheter every three days and then I went to school and catch up with everyone. I loved to go to school and I knew that if I didn’t do anything in this one broken life I have, it will go to waste. This dialysis has worked well for me and I know there is still hope for kids, as well as adults, who are fighting against their diseases, fears, disasters, and tragedies.
