This however became easy when she approached GoMedii for her treatment. While Mr. Saud was not convinced by the diagnosis, a second opinion by another doctor confirmed the diagnosis.
“We were shocked, she was scared, I prayed hard to Allah, that let this be untrue” in the words of Mr. Faisal. The family was traveling with a lot of hope to India and at GoMedii we did not wish to let this hope die. We contacted our best Oncologists in Fortis Noida and started to prepare for the arrival of the couple.
Treatment Journey of Mrs. Saud Faisal With GoMedii
Mrs. Saud Faisal (64 years) was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Iraq in November 2020, after which she underwent upfront chemotherapy (NACT) followed by Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) there. In May 2021, she underwent another surgery for GIST’s stomach. However, even after the surgery, her abdominal distension, pain & weakness didn’t subside.
After her arrival in India in July 2021, she started her chemotherapy. Her PET CT showed ascites, peritoneal & mesenteric disease. After discussing the details with the family surgeon, a secondary cytoreduction (CRS) with HIPEC was offered to the patient’s family, it being the only way to completely remove the disease.
We also told them that because of the patient’s medical history, the surgery was not going to be easy. The family agreed & she underwent an 8-hour long surgery on 10th September 2021.
What were the procedures involved in the treatment?
As mentioned she went through the PET CT while her chemotherapy was going on. Our doctor team was able to achieve RO resection & she underwent the HIPEC procedure as planned, which she tolerated well. As per the expectation, the post-operative recovery was a bit slow but the patient did recover smoothly.
What is Ovarian Cancer?
Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the ovaries. The female reproductive system contains two ovaries, one on each side of the uterus. The ovaries, each about the size of an almond, produce eggs and the hormones estrogen and progesterone.
Ovarian cancer is often discovered only after it has spread to the pelvis and stomach. At this advanced stage, ovarian cancer is more difficult to treat and often fatal. Surgery and chemotherapy are usually used to treat cancer.
