What is Antibiotics?
Antibiotics (also known as antibacterial) are antimicrobial drugs used for the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections.

They work by killing or inhibiting the growth of bacteria and possess antiprotozoal activity. Antibiotics are ineffective against viruses like influenza or common cold and antiviral drugs.
Several types of generic antibiotics are amoxicillin, doxycycline, and cephalexin.
It also has classes such as penicillins, tetracyclines, and quinolones.
What is Bronchitis?
Is an inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes that carry air to and from the lungs.
People suffering from bronchitis have thickened mucus while coughing, and it may be either acute or chronic.
The bronchitis disease may develop from cold or other respiratory infection.
Chronic bronchitis is a serious condition that causes inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes due to smoking.
It is also a condition that includes chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Symptoms of Acute or Chronic Bronchitis:
- Coughing
- Mucus production
- Fatigue
- Breath shortness
- Fever and chill
- Chest discomfort
Causes of Bronchitis:
Acute bronchitis is caused by viruses, or we can say the same viruses that cause flu (influenza) and colds. Antibiotics cannot kill viruses, so the antibiotic type of medications is not useful in most cases of bronchitis.

Mostly the common causes of bronchitis are cigarette smoking, air pollution, and toxic gases or dust.
Factors That Increase Risk of Bronchitis:
Cigarette smoker or smoking: People who smoke or who live with smokers are at higher risk of both chronic and acute bronchitis.
Low resistance: This is also another type of acute illness like cold or from a chronic condition that impacts the immune system.
Exposure to irritants on the job: People may have a risk of developing bronchitis who work around certain lung irritants like grains or textiles, or are near to chemical fumes.
Gastric reflux: Repeated bouts of heartburn can irritate the throat and make a person more prone to develop bronchitis.
Why Antibiotics Are Useless for Treating Bronchitis:
According to a research conducted by the “Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine” reveals that clinical trials do not support the use of antibiotics for treating bronchitis due to its viral infections, and do not respond to antibiotics.
The studies also have evidence that cough medicine is prescribed in most acute bronchitis cases.
