Is this a disease or you need medication?

No, it is not a disease. You do not get it from someone, but it might just be because of reasons that you too will have difficulty in understanding. This is a state of being in professional and personal life as well. Imposter syndrome can be defined as a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite evident success.

‘Imposters’ suffer from chronic self-doubt and a sense of intellectual fraudulence that override any feelings of success or external proof of their competence.

They seem unable to internalize their accomplishments, however successful they are in their field. High achieving, highly successful people often suffer, so imposter syndrome doesn’t equate with low self-esteem or a lack of self-confidence. In fact, some researchers have linked it with perfectionism, especially in women and among academics.

How do you get Imposter Syndrome?

In a lot of cases, the study says that it is a childhood pressure. It is like, people can face imposter syndrome because of how they are raised in childhood.

One example can be, how the parents classify their own kids. Like, one child will be said that they are strong while the other one is sensitive. This is built in the child’s head and the sensitive one thinks that they can never be strong. It is not that they are not capable but because they think they cannot do certain things with strength.

Coping up with Imposter Syndrome:

It is time you know that you can do anything you want to and people do not have to tell you so. Here are some ways to get through Imposter Syndrome.

1) Know more about yourself

Yes, learn more about yourself. Check on your own capabilities. Judge yourself before letting anyone else judge you. It is a tool of self-realization. Do not hesitate in doing new things. You never know you might be very good at it. So, do not let Imposter syndrome take the best of you!

2) Talk and Seek Support

Just because you feel such a performance pressure, maybe others are supportive and look up to your work; they would be humbled to lend a helping hand. Talk to friends, family, and colleagues to clearly explain the problems you face when you try or want to overcome the feeling of being a “lucky” person.

They may or may not be able to provide some actionable solutions, but sharing these thoughts is bound to take the same pressure off your mind.

3) Make changes in your thinking

You must have heard, too much of anything is bad. If you keep telling yourself you will not be able to do it. You will never be able to do it. Hence, stop doing so and gain confidence.

Imposter Syndrome is way more complicated than it seems. A lot of well-known people, even the former first lady Michelle Obama has suffered from this syndrome. So, do not feel dejected. You can fight it through in all ways! For any further help, book doctor appointments online and get solutions to your problems.
