National Cancer Awareness Day
There is one among many chronic diseases that one can be extremely scary. It is Cancer. One cannot deny that being aware is the only way to get through the condition. As a campaign, 7th November is observed as the National Cancer Awareness Day. Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan while announcing the news said ” Henceforth, November 7 will be observed all over the country as National Cancer Awareness Day. It is high time we went into combative mode against this disease”.

Vardhan, who declared the Regional Cancer Centre here as upgraded into the State Cancer Institute, said there were 2.9 million cases of cancer in the country with 1.1 million new cases being reported annually. Two-thirds of cancer cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage, reducing patients’ chances of survival, he said, according to an official release.
What Can be Ways to Prevent Cancer?
This National Cancer Awareness Day, the ministry has assured that more research would be put in to make people aware of the chronic condition. Well, we are here with some preventive measures in advance.
1) Maintain a Good weight:
A good weight is very necessary for healthy living. The chances of you getting a chronic condition like cancer increases. Those with extremely unhealthy weight are way more at risk. This is compared to those who actually maintain the weight which is considered healthy.
2) Do Not Smoke:
“Smoking is injurious to health” well we are sure you must have seen this slogan in most of the places and posters. Avoiding tobacco or deciding to stop using it is an important part of cancer prevention. If you need help quitting tobacco, ask your doctor about stop-smoking products and other strategies for quitting.
3) Make Changes in Diet:
Changes in the diet are important. From the oily food, you get tons of sources of a chronic condition, like heart and stomach cancers as well. It is true that though you make healthy selections at the grocery store no one can guarantee cancer prevention, but will reduce the risk.
4) Keep Protections in Mind:
If you are careless about some of the medical behavior, there are chances of getting cancer. When we say, “careless” we imply that you do not take enough precautions. For example, sterilizing the needles for injection use. Similarily you must take the protection and avoid unsafe sex.
5) Medical Care:
Regular self-exams and screenings for various types of cancers such as cancer of the skin, colon, cervix, and breast can increase your chances of discovering cancer early when treatment is most likely to be successful. Ask your doctor about the best cancer screening schedule for you.
This National Cancer Awareness Day, we pledge that we will prevent this chronic condition. National Cancer Awareness Day’ started in 2014 when it was first announced by the former Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan. February 4th is World Cancer Day when organizations and individuals around the world unite to raise awareness about cancer and work to make it a global health priority.
