Every year a World Environmental Day has developed as a platform to raise awareness on the problems facing our environment such as air pollution, sustainable consumption, illegal wildlife trade, sea-level increase, and plastic pollution, among others. Who hosting 2021 World Environmental Day?

Every year WED is hosted by different countries. This year, Pakistan is going to host World Environmental Day 2021 in partnership with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).

Malik Amin Aslam, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Minister of Climate Change, has said that we need to stop the degradation of ecosystems around the world and its restoration.

Pakistan’s government has planned the expansion and restoration of forests in the country under the 1000 crore ‘Tree Tsunami Initiative’ in the next five years. Not only this, in this campaign, Pakistan is working on a plan to restore mangroves and forests, a plantation in many other areas of the city including schools, colleges, and parks.

What is this year theme of World Environmental Day?

This year the theme of World Environmental Day 2021 is ‘Restoring the Ecosystem’. Restoration of ecosystems means stopping the damage caused by human activities and healing our nature. According to the United Nation every three seconds, the world loses a lot of forests, and in the last century, we have destroyed half of our wetlands.

United Nation: Ecosystem restoration means preventing, halting, and reversing this damage – to go from exploiting nature to healing it. This World Environmental Day will kick off the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), a global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from the top of mountains to the depth of the sea.
