What is Hematuria?

What are the Types of Hematuria?
Hematuria can be categorized into two types:
- If the blood is visible in your urine, then it is known as gross hematuria.
- If the blood is not visible by eyes and can be visible only by microscope then it is called microscopic hematuria.
Who are at the Risk of Hematuria?
Anyone can have hematuria(urine in the blood), but you might at the risk of it if you have:

What are the Causes of Blood in Urine?
There are many reasons for blood in your urine. Having blood in your urine is does not always means that you have kidney any disease. There are some other reasons too which can cause urine in blood:
Urinary Tract Infections.
The UTI occurs when foreign bacteria enters your body by the urinary tract and reach the bladder. The symptoms of UTI can include an urge to use washroom, burning or pain while urination.
Kidney Infections (pyelonephritis).
It can happen when some foreign bacteria reach the kidneys from your bloodstream or travel from your ureters to the kidney. The symptoms are usually the same as bladder infections.
A bladder or Kidney Stone.
The minerals of urine form crystals on the walls of your bladder or kidneys, by the time, these crystals can convert to small, hard stones.
Enlarged Prostate.
The prostate gland which is surrounded at the top part of the urethra or just below the bladder is usually enlarged when men reach their middle age. Then it presses the urethra or partially blocking urine flow.
Kidney Disease.
Microscopic hematuria is a common cause of kidney disease (glomerulonephritis ), which is an inflammation of the kidneys’ filtering system.
Cancer.
Visible urinary bleeding can be the sign of bladder, advanced kidney or prostate cancer.
Inherited Disorders.
A hereditary defect which is known as sickle cell anemia can cause blood in urine, it can be both visible and microscopic hematuria.
Strenuous Exercise.
Strenuous exercise can lead to gross hematuria. It can be linked to the breakdown of red blood cells that occurs with sustained aerobic exercise.

What are the Symptoms of Blood in Urine?
It quite possible that you can not notice any symptoms if you have microscopic hematuria.
But, If you have gross hematuria, Then the urine can be is pink, red or brown in color. The blood of the urine makes it a color difference.
What is the Treatment for Blood in the Urine?
The Treatment of hematuria(urine in the blood), is based on the cause of the disease. If your blood in your urine is due to infection, then your doctor prescribes you an antibiotic medicine.
