The virology lab of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) tested two patients blood samples, showed a positive report for chikungunya on Thursday.

Dr. Sachchidanand Kumar incharge of PMCH virology lab reported a 24-year-old Kurji resident was tested positive for chikungunya. Also, Dr. Ragini Mishra, an epidemiologist associated with State Health Society-Bihar claimed that another patient was tested positive for the disease.

Likewise, on Wednesday two more patients were tested positive for dengue. As a result, the number of dengue patients has increased to nine, including seven migrants. A man from Bihari Sao Lane near PMCH was detected with dengue. The other victim lives at Fatuha in Patna district.

According to Dr. Mishra, dengue patients suffer from fever and joint pain and have rashes on their bodies. She also said that “In severe cases, there is hemorrhagic fever and platelets fall.”

Dr. Anil Kumar Jaiswal head of PMCH pediatric department quoted, in case of chikungunya, pain is unbearable. Also “In common language, chikungunya is called bone-breaking fever,” he added.

Dr. Jaiswal advised people not to get panicked. He said “Chikungunya is rare in Bihar and in case of dengue, 90% people get cured themselves. Since there is no vaccination, one should take precautions. They should use mosquito repellent, wear full-sleeve clothes and avoid the storage of water. In case of bleeding from any organ of the body, one should go for the test.”

An official State Health Society-Bihar informed that awareness programs are being organized in districts vulnerable to dengue and chikungunya diseases.

Questions are being raised over the preparedness of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) in tackling the disease due to the Outbreak of dengue in the city. Although dengue has reared its ugly heads in the state but fogging is yet to be carried out by the PMC in several localities.

Also, Satish Shrivastava, a retired government official, and resident of Ramnagri in the city said fogging was not carried out in the locality this time. He said “PMC officials select VIP areas to do fogging. They just don’t think about common people.”

A resident of Patna City Adil Akhtar said fogging is conducted in the locality only four to five times a year, and Sadaf Yahya resident Pataliputra said last fogging in her locality was done in February this year.
