Second Union Budget 2020-21 presented on 1 February is woven around Aspirational India; from boosting the standard of living, economic development for all to building a humane and compassionate society.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said this year the government will endeavor to bring ease of living through various schemes such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Poshan Abhiyan, healthcare for all, as an instance.

 

Health-Care Sector Budget 2020

 

The finance minister allocated Rs. 69,000 crores for India’s healthcare sector for this FY 2020-21.  Ms. Sitharaman said the vision is a healthier India, the government looks forward to expanding Jan Aushadhi Kendras in all districts of the country. The goal is to provide medicines at affordable rates to all.

 

In reference, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the government will launch a campaign to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) by 2025.

 

With the allocation of Rs 69,000 crore to the healthcare sector, Rs 6,400 crore will be allocated to Ayushman Bharat. The health sector budget allocation saw an increment of Rs. 6,341 crores; which was Rs. 62,659.12 crores last year.

 

She also added the budget suggests attaching a medical college to a district hospital in Public-private partnership (PPP) as there is a shortage of qualified medical doctors; both general practitioners and specialists.

 

Nutrition Sector Budget 2020

 

The Nutrition Sector allocated with Rs. 35,600 crores for nutrition-related programmes in 2020-21. The budget for the National Nutrition Mission or POSHAN Abhiyaan saw the increment of Rs. 3,400 crore in 2019-20 to Rs. 3,700 in 2020-21. Where the National Nutrition Mission or POSHAN Abhiyaan look at bring down malnutrition rate in India.

 

The FM announced Rs. 28,600 crores for programs that are specific to women. Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a program of maternity benefit saw the boost. Where it got increased from Rs. 2,300 crore to Rs. 2,500 crore. The mothers covered under the program can get Rs. 6,000.

 

 

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Union Budget 2020

 

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a nation-wide cleanliness campaign started in 2014 with an aim to make India completely Swachh and end open defecation. For FY 2020-2021, Ms. Sitharaman allocated a budget of Rs. 12,300 crores for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Where it was Rs.12,644 crores for the last financial year.

 

The budget allocation has seen a decrease in SBA of Rs. 344 crores compared to last year. While some experts said the cut in the budget is fine, some find it disappointing.
