Define the H1N1 Virus:

 

Swine flu is an infection caused by a virus. It’s got the name “swine” because the virus is generally found the pigs. People do not normally get swine flu, but human infections can and do happen. The virus is contagious and can spread from human to human. Symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue.

The signs and symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of infections caused by other flu strains and can include:

Causes of the H1N1 Virus

 

Influenza viruses infect the cells that line your nose, throat, and lungs. The virus enters your body when you inhale contaminated droplets or transfer the live virus from a contaminated surface to your eyes, nose or mouth.

Why Do People Die From H1N1?

 

People died because the lungs get stiff and finally gives out via lack of oxygen or drowned by fluids. At this time, about 40-50% of H1N1 deaths are reported due to viral pneumonia and half the fatalities have been in people with pre-existing medical conditions like obesity, diabetes, and pregnancy.

 

How Can the H1N1 Virus Prevent?

 

Stay at home if you’re sick

 

If you have the flu, it’s strictly recommended to stay at home because it can easily spread to others. Stay at your place for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone.

 

Sanitation

 

Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently. Apply some soap and water, or if they’re not available, then use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

 

Cover the mouth

 

Always cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. Wear a face mask if you have one. To avoid contaminating your hands, cough or sneeze into a tissue or the inner crook of your elbow.

 

Avoid Contact

 

Always keep in mind to avoid contact with others because it’s communicable and if you may get the high risk of complications from the flu, for example, you’re younger than 5 or you’re 65 or older, you’re pregnant, or you have a chronic medical condition like – asthma  consider avoiding swine barns at seasonal fairs and elsewhere.
