Like legs and gluteals, hips and back also get affected if you stay sitting for too long. Sitting for too long or consistently sitting with poor posture can lead to problems with your hip joints. And the same goes for spine health- problems like compression in the discs, premature degeneration that can turn out to be painful.

 

4. Cancer among the major drawbacks of sitting for long hours

 

Although the reason is yet to be known, studies have suggested an increased risk of a certain type of cancer among people who sits for long hours. Certain cancers like lung, uterine, and colon cancers.

 

5. Unhealthy heart

 

There is a higher risk of death due to cardiovascular disease among those who have a sedentary lifestyle. No doubt regular exercise can improve heart health. Although the exact reason is not yet clear, some studies do state sitting a lot has harmful effects on sugar and fat metabolism. Both factors are responsible for heart disease and diabetes.

6. Risk of Diabetes

 

Among the major drawbacks of sitting for long hours, another one is diabetes. According to Better health, “Even five days lying in bed can raise insulin resistance in your body.” Hence, people sitting for a longer hour are at higher risk of diabetes.

 

7. Neck and shoulder stiffness

 

Those who spend time sitting or lying must know that it can lead to pain and stiffness in your neck as well as shoulders. If you have 9 hours of working schedule make sure to take a break every 30 minutes.
