It is found only in male body and attains its mature size during puberty, between the age of 10 to 14 years.

 

After the mid-age of males, prostate tends to diminish or enlarge its size and catches various syndromes.

 

The prostate falls under the category of saclike glands along with lungs, pancreas and more. Normal weight of this gland must settle between 7 grams to 16 grams, otherwise, one can face troubles like diseases and pain. What is the Functioning of the Prostate Gland?

 

According to the compelling functioning of this gland, it can be easily considered as an essential reproductive part of the male human body.

 

The prostate is responsible for producing and secreting an alkaline seminal fluid which contributes 30-35% of total semen ejaculated during male seminal emission.

 

This alkaline seminal fluid is milky white in color, termed as the prostate fluid, works as the protection for the semen. It nourishes the semen to survive under vigorous and repelling condition of the female vagina which is acidic in nature.

 

In the human body, prostate fluid consist of mere 1% of protein and rest are some vital enzymes like proteolytic enzymes, prostatic acid phosphatase, and prostate-specific antigen which enables the semen to swim and act as an antacid.

 

This walnut gland also acts as a muscle pump which helps semen to travel from ejaculatory duct to urethra with enough force to reach the cervix of the vagina.

 

This process gives satisfactory and pleasing sensation to males. Hence, the prostate can be called the G-spot of males.

 

One more significant function of this gland is detoxification. It filters and eliminates the toxins from the reproductive part of males which helps in protecting and enhancing the quality of sperm.

 

Additionally, this toxic removing property leads to fewer risks of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) in males. The erection of penis can be held responsible to prostate erection nerves as well.

 

Sometimes, males feel an urge of urination but have to postpone the urination by holding the urine longer in the bladder due to some specific circumstances.

 

The prostate helps in holding the urine and releases the resistances when allowed by the body.

Therefore, functionalities of this gland are vivid and quite essential for many aspects of the human body.

What are the Diseases of the Prostate Gland?

 

The more functionalities this gland offers the much risk of diseases it persists. There are some fatal diseases that can be acquired by prostate gland if proper care is not taken.

 

These diseases may be asymptomatic at times but more often shows clear symptoms that are easily detected by the males.

1. Prostatitis:

This is caused by inflammation of the gland which makes it enlarged and painful. This disease can be acute and chronic as well.

 

2. Prostate Cancer:

This is a fatal condition where the patient can fall prey to death if not treated properly.

 

3. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH):

This disease causes severe difficulty in urination and urgency of urination on the other hand. It is caused due to enlargement of the gland.
