World Kidney Day is a global awareness campaign or day aimed at raising awareness of the importance of our kidneys’ health.

 

World Kidney Day held every year on 8th March. All across the globe, several events take place from public screenings to marathons for spreading the awareness regarding the World Kidney Day.

 

Awareness about preventive behaviors, awareness about how to live with a kidney disease, and awareness about its risk factors. We do these events because we want kidney health for all.

 

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a worldwide public health problem with adverse outcomes of premature death and kidney failure. The risk of developing the CKD is high in women as compared to men, and may even be higher. But, the number of women on dialysis is lower than the men.

 

At least three major reasons are recognized for the increase in CKD progression is slower in women compared to men, psycho-socioeconomic barriers like lower disease awareness that lead to late or no start of dialysis among women and uneven access to care that could be a major issue in countries with no universal access to healthcare.

Kidney transplantation is also unequally developed, mostly due to cultural, social, and psychological aspects. Some countries that provide kidney transplantation and equitable treatment for women and men.

 

Some studies show that women tend more often to donate kidneys and are less likely to receive them. There is a clear need to address these issues of equitable healthcare access for women across the world, where it is currently lacking and increase awareness as well as education to facilitate women’s access to better treatment and health outcomes.
