March 6 ( Wednesday), the Health Department of Michigan Confirmed that a person traveling overseas was “contagious” at Detroit Airport.

On the same day, the New Jersey Department of Health issued a similar warning about “a small child” arriving from Brussels Newark Liberty International Airport and returning to Memphis on 12 March for “a confirmed case of measles”.

“between 12:45 and 21:00″ on March 12, could develop symptoms of the disease by April 2” The Department of Health (New Jersey) warned everyone who visited the airport.

It has been confirmed by the Dr. Jennifer Lighter Fisher, that measle is “the most contagious infectious disease in the world”.

“Measles is a highly contagious disease that can spread through contact with infected mucus and saliva. An infected person can release the infection into the air when coughing or sneezing. The measles virus can live on surfaces for several hours. If infected particles get into the air and settle on surfaces, anyone in the vicinity can become infected.”

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services also notified “anyone in customs or luggage area at North Terminal Detroit Airport between 2 pm and 5 pm” on March 6 to contact their doctor, if they suspect that they have developed symptoms of the virus.

They also said that the patients who were diagnosed with measles are “hospitalized and now recovering.”

In 2000, measles was declared eradicated in the US because it did not spread systemically like colds or flu. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only a few dozen measles were diagnosed each year, mainly by travelers.

However, the disease has returned in recent years.

Dr. Fisher explained how the disease works and told that there is currently no “cure for measles right now”.

“So if somebody gets it, it’s not like they can take a drug that will treat them,” she said, adding that “the disease usually lasts one to two weeks and is contagious 4 days before Outbreak. “

“People should get vaccinated against these preventable diseases.” For those who do not get vaccinated, they endanger the most vulnerable people in the population, “he said.

“For example, very small children cannot be vaccinated, and those who choose not to be vaccinated expose others to risk,” he added. “It is very important that a population as a whole be vaccinated to protect the weakest.”
