According to a recent study, 3D imaging analysis can detect tiny changes in arthritic joints that could better explain how osteoarthritis develops as well as provide new and improved arthritis treatment.
The study was conducted by a team of engineers, radiologists, and physicians from the University of Cambridge, are successful in developing an algorithm that monitors the joints of patients with arthritis, which could provide changes in the assessment of the condition.
The study appeared in the periodical “Scientific Reports,” which further concludes that the technique helps in providing more understanding related to osteoarthritis develops as well as allow the treatments to be assessed more accurately, outwardly the need for invasive tissue sampling.
Moreover, osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis in approx all across the world. This condition of osteoarthritis develops when the bone ends have articular cartilage coats and enable them to slide smoothly over each other at joints resulting in immobile and painful joints.
Currently, there is no known cure for the condition and the only reliable treatment is surgery for artificial joint replacement.
Osteoarthritis conditions usually identified on an x-ray through narrowing the space between the joint bones due to a loss of cartilage. However, these x-rays do not have enough sensitivity to detect complex and subtle changes in the joint.
This osteoarthritis technique is developed with the help of a standard computerized tomography scan images that provides three dimensions detailed images. But still, the computerized tomography scan of joints has not yet been approved for research trials use.
