We’ve always been told to avoid eating cheese before going to bed, but new research suggests that having cottage cheese before bed can help in losing weight.
A study published in the periodical “British Journal of Nutrition” reveals that low-calorie foods help in boosting the body metabolism, muscles, and overall wellbeing, even while the person is sleeping. The result shows that having cottage cheese before bed can help in losing weight.
While eating before going to bed has been thought to increase the risk of developing some excess fat around the waistline, that isn’t the case for protein-rich foods.
This research showed that eating only two tablespoons of cottage cheese half an hour before the bedtime could improve the health as well as provide a nutritious substitute to sugar-laden snacks.
In a statement, Professor Michael Ormsbee, from Florida State University, states that “Until now, we presumed whole foods would act similarly to the data on supplemental protein, but we had no real evidence. This is important because it adds to the body of literature that indicates whole foods work just as well as protein supplementation, and it gives people options for pre-sleep nutrition that go beyond powders and shaker bottles.”
Cottage cheese has a muscle-building protein known as casein. Because of its slow-releasing characteristics, it can give crucial amino acids regularly throughout the night.
Cottage cheese is not the only cheese that could help with weight loss, the research team also revealed that some other low-fat cheeses are eaten with raw vegetables also have similar results.
Cottage cheese is fresh curd cheese which is lightly flavored. In processing the cheese, whey is drained but the curd is not pressed due to which a certain amount of whey is left in it.
