A research team from Japan has defined the relations between knee pain and depression.

According to a study that has appeared in the periodical “Journal of the American Geriatrics Society” there is the relation between knee pain and depression as osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, that mostly affects millions of people across the globe, and a knee pain from OA damages the quality of life and further lead to depression.

 

When the study started between 2005-2006 none of the participants had symptoms of depression. Two years later, almost all of them completed observe-up interviews, the individuals spoke back questions about their knee pain and were evaluated for signs of depression.

 

Almost 12 percent of the participants had advanced signs of depression. People mainly experienced knee pain at night time in bad, while getting in or out of a car, or while putting on socks, and are more likely to report having symptoms of depression.

 

The researchers concluded that older adults with knee pain can be useful for supporting to display screen people beings in danger of developing depression.

 

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic disease that has no cure and is common in middle‐aged and elderly people across the world. It mainly causes the destruction and degeneration of articular cartilage and surrounding joint structures in the knee, which often limits daily living activities.
