Yet most of the countries are not serious about the accomplishment of their plans. The new report draws on the data from the Health and Climate Change Survey Report and data from 101 countries survey done by WHO.

On prioritizing climate change and health, avoid half of the countries have developed a national health and climate change strategy or plan. As a matter of concern, only 38% can partially implement their national strategy or plan with the available finances, and fewer than 10% have the channeling resources to implement it completely.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization said, “Climate change is not only racking up a bill for future generations to pay but it’s a price that people are paying for now with their health. It is a moral imperative that countries have the resources they need to act against climate change and safeguard health now and in the future.”

About 48% of countries have evaluated the climate risks to public health. The common climate-sensitive risk that was listed by countries-heat stress, injury or death from extreme weather events, food, water and vector-borne diseases (such as cholera, dengue or malaria).

Sixty percent of these countries have reported that the assessment findings have had little or no influence on the allocation of human and financial resources to meet their adaptation priorities for protecting health. Mainstreaming health in national and international climate processes could help access the necessary funds.
