The number of cases of people being infected is on the rise, due to the recent coronavirus outbreak. The virus has caused 17 Deaths with rising infection cases of more than 500. At present, all the public transports including flights in and out of Wuhan has been suspended.

According to WHO, “Coronavirus is a family of viruses that causes illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe respiratory diseases, such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).”


The virus that has caused horror in China is a new strain novel coronavirus (nCoV), which is a never-seen-before type.


On 31 December 2019, information about the cases of pneumonia of unknown etiology (unknown cause) came from Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China. On 7 January, the causative virus responsible was a novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).


Further, on 10 January, a series of interim guidance for all the countries were issued by WHO related to:


  • How to prepare for the recent coronavirus outbreak?


  • How to monitor for sick people, and their test samples?


  • Ways to treat patients?


  • Control infection in health centers.


  • Maintain the right supplies.


  • Communicate with the public about this new virus.


Symptoms of the recent coronavirus outbreak


Even now, the United States has also reported its first case of the novel coronavirus. The common symptoms of infection include respiratory symptoms, such as:


  • breathing difficulties

In the worst-cases, the condition manifests into complications like pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death.


Standard recommendations for prevention


There are certain standard recommendations to prevent the recent coronavirus outbreak which are:


  • Do regular hand wash.
  • Cover mouth and nose while coughing and sneezing.
  • Wash and cook meats and eggs thoroughly.
  • Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms.
