Knowing about your diet if you are a kidney disease patient sounds reasonable. The body produces urea when a person eats more protein. Improper functioning of the kidney can lead to the build-up of urea in the blood, causing loss of appetite and fatigue. In that case, a low protein renal diet puts less pressure on the kidneys.

What is a low protein renal diet?

A low protein renal diet can be beneficial for a person with kidney-related problems. Where, the low-protein diet focuses on restricting the amount of protein intake, which is 1 gram/kg for ideal body weight. Protein is important for the body but reducing the intake of protein is remedial for people with certain conditions, such as kidney disease or phenylketonuria.

Kidney disease

During the digestion process of protein, the body produces a compound called urea. Generally, urea leaves the body via urine without causing any issues.  However, if the kidneys are not functioning properly, urea builds up in the blood and causes nausea, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

People with kidney disease can follow a low protein renal diet to reduce protein intake. That will reduce the strain in the kidneys and will prevent the build-up of urea in the blood.
